Previously, we have just mentioned that we’ll be describing about the hardware field in IT in our next article. So let’s spend a few minutes completely into the Hardware division of the IT field.

What generally is Hardware?
So let’s get into the term Hardware again and it’s significance in the IT industry. Now, to start with the term hardware, it’s nothing but the field or art that deals with the complete alpha to zeta of the components which are physically tough and are capable of performing several functions. In other words, it is the field of studies, production and improvement of the small parts of a machine or a result component.
Look at the above picture. We are all well aware that these are some of the hardware tools and parts that we see in our daily life. We may sometimes wonder why these parts got such weird shapes and why one part is harder than the other one? Why not all the parts are made of the same components?
Why this? Why that? Why?
Well, here is the answer. All the parts have specific functions to perform and it becomes a determining factor as such. We will be in detail studying about what are all the courses available for Hardware engineering after we find out why hardware in IT field.
What Hardware section does in IT Industry?
Let’s take a computer, or a laptop, or a mobile phone. Let’s start observing them… What’s there ? Let’s first view the external features. Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, CPU, UPS, Plug points, and in case if it’s a high performance computer or mobile, external fans to cool them and when we look internally, bunches and bunches of wires running here and there, some green boards, cards, chips, welding, processors, fans, etc.,
So, what these things actually do? Why are they inside there? How did the first ever computer built by Charles Babbage is in the size of a room and just doing mere works like adding and subtracting has now evolved into a size less than our hands but does tons and tons of work? Just thinking about all this has made our brain develop more shrinks as before. All these miracles happened due to the gigantic development of the Hardware field in the IT kingdom! Let’s see some of the most important hardware parts in detail now.
Observe the above picture. It’s a picture of an old Apple Macintosh(Expansion of Mac)Computer’s monitor and an Apple IMAC Computer. The first difference that we observe is the monitor. Monitor is the face of a computer. That is, it expresses whatever it thinks through the monitor.
So, let’s see what hardware has done to develop the first Macintosh or any other Computer to the advanced IMAC now. Previously or currently, hardware is mostly Chemistry. Hardware sees every product as an element or a compound-organic or inorganic.
Early days when monitors were just used as emitting faces, hardware people thought that it was enough to just be showing something just like a torch, So they used the Cathode Rays for screens. But slowly they evolved, and we are now using LED’s, LCD’s, advanced LED like OLED, AMOLED etc., All the properties are improved and improved due to the lots of researches being done on the emission through a screen, all thanks to the Hardware field.
The Central Processing Unit(as we all know) is the most important place in a computer where all the life-running organs of a computer such as the processor, motherboard are all present and function within.
So, in order for a system to work properly, all the components inside the CPU must be well-functioning. Let us now see what a CPU consists of mainly. It contains the processor and the mother board, which are those components that are involved in the translating process(we’ll be seeing about the translating process in a separate article under programming languages),memory allocations, communications, controlling the work of other parts and commanding them what to do.
The above picture is of a processor. As the name indicates, it is the controller of almost all the “processes” that are involved in the computer. One may wonder that “How come a small piece gains a control over everything?” Firstly, processors were very huge in size and they practically were very slow. But after the detailed study of the chemical and physical properties of the components used in them(like Silicon, Carbon and some organic and inorganic compounds) and their properties for what they are assigned to accomplish.
This picture is a motherboard, it acts as a messenger which carries on works allotted by the processor to other parts including memory components like RAM and ROM. The chips components are designed in such a way they withstand high heat and pressure, without any deformations and perform flawlessly. All these material component designations are decided by the Hardware people.
RAM (Random Access Memory):
Whenever we buy a device, we will be looking external features like looks, camera quality for a phone or graphic quality for a computer. Additionally, we look for something called RAM(Random Access Memory). For instance, if it’s a phone, then our minimum RAM requirement for a new one is 4 GB. And if it’s a laptop or computer, we shall look for 16 GB. So what actually is a RAM?
RAM or Random Access Memory is a board which is place where all the requirements for the functioning of a machine or present. It keeps a control over the memory allocation of every single application in the computer. So let’s define simply in terms that you will easily understand. If one is using a mobile of 4 GB RAM, they can perform applications or functions which are equivalent to a memory of 4 GB, all in the same time. So, the more the RAM, more the memory for doing work at the same time, more will be space, more will be speed and fluency.
Graduations related to Hardware Engineering
One has many ways of getting into the Hardware Field like obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a Bachelor of Science in Material Science, Material Chemistry and other related courses. But the most reputed courses are B.Sc and M.Sc in Hardware and management, since recruiters look for people who have a deep practical knowledge with materials and hardware.
